Por ello, adem\u00e1s, se usa como <strong>material abrasivo<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-344 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/carburo-de-silicio_-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Carburo de silicio\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: #ff0000; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Este material <strong>fue descubierto accidentalmente<\/strong> por el qu\u00edmico sueco\u00a0<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J%C3%B6ns_Jacob_Berzelius\"><em>J\u00f6ns Jacob Berzelius<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>en 1824 mientras realizaba un experimento para sintetizar diamantes y gracias a sus trabajos, el qu\u00edmico e inventor estadounidense <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Goodrich_Acheson\"><em>Edward Goodrich Acheson<\/em><\/a><\/span>, fund\u00f3 la <strong>Compa\u00f1\u00eda Carborundum<\/strong> con la intenci\u00f3n de producir un abrasivo. La <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/blog\/prehistoria-abrasivos\/\">historia de los abrasivos<\/a><\/span>, en general, es de una trayectoria muy larga, remont\u00e1ndose a la prehistoria.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Formas_del_Carburo_de_Silicio\"><\/span>Formas del Carburo de Silicio<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: #ff0000; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El <strong>Carburo de Silicio<\/strong> tiene tres polimorfismos: c\u00fabica, hexagonal y rombo\u00e9drica. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Es un <strong>material refractario con alta resistencia a la oxidaci\u00f3n<\/strong> a temperaturas elevadas debido\u00a0a la formaci\u00f3n de una\u00a0capa de SiO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>que le protege. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: #ff0000; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Su excepcional dureza, sin embargo, <strong>es lo que lo convierte en un material id\u00f3neo para ser utilizado como <a href=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/blog\/discos-desbaste-rigido-vs-desbaste-abrasivos-flexible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abrasivo para desbaste<\/a><\/strong>, corte y pulido.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_345\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-345\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-345 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/formas_-300x96.jpg\" alt=\"Formas del carburo de silicio\" width=\"300\" height=\"96\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Polimorfismos del Carburo de Silicio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: #ff0000; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Se produce en horno el\u00e9ctrico, a muy altas temperaturas con arena de s\u00edlice, coke residual de petr\u00f3leo, sal (como agente purificante) y aserr\u00edn (para disipar los gases). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; color: #ff0000; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">El resultado es una masa de cristales de elevada dureza y un alto \u00edndice de fractura. Esta fragilidad, el hecho que se fracture f\u00e1cilmente por su poca tenacidad, provoca que el material presente continuamente aristas afiladas de excelente corte. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">El abrasivo del Carburo de Silicio (SIC) es el m\u00e1s duro y cortante entre los abrasivos sint\u00e9ticos convencionales<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">, lo que le convierte en ideal para acabados finos. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Aunque su baja tenacidad (resistencia a la fractura) lo hace poco adecuado para aplicaciones donde pueda recibir impactos, su gran dureza, pr\u00f3xima a la del diamante, le hace excelente para el uso sobre piedra y materiales duros.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Su elevada temperatura de fusi\u00f3n (2500\u00baC) permite utilizarlo como refractario.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Su elevada resistencia a compresi\u00f3n le permite ser utilizado en algunos componentes de turbinas y\u00a0 motores. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"margin: 0px; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Su dureza cercana a la del diamante permite utilizarlo como abrasivo en los materiales m\u00e1s duros.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>En VSM, expertos en la <a href=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/co\/\">fabricaci\u00f3n de abrasivos<\/a>, contamos con una amplia gama de <a href=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/co\/productos\/\">abrasivos industriales<\/a>, desde <a href=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/co\/categoria-producto\/discos-desbaste-abrasivos\/\">discos abrasivos<\/a> hasta <a href=\"https:\/\/vsmabrasivos.com\/co\/categoria-producto\/hojas-y-pliegos-abrasivos-co\/\">hojas abrasivas<\/a>.
